Idea: Self Employment Option (MicroEntrepreneurship) for EIA recipients in Manitoba

The concept of breaking the cycle of poverty via investment in microfinancing has recently won Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank the Nobel Peace Prize for their pioneering use of microcredit. How is Manitoba advancing this concept? MAC set out to determine where microcredit is positioned on the Manitoba Govt radar.

The letter to the Manitoba Government:

Dear Premier Doer,

Re: The Cycle of Poverty, Exclusion from Financial Markets & Self Employment Initiatives

I propose EIA initiate an immediate program strategy to advise all EIA recipients of their right to apply for the Self Employment Assistance Program, Educational Opportunities, Training Opportunities and all other applicable programs. This is the dawn of a new era in the construct between those who deliver and receive services in the north.

MAC:Manitoba Action Centre will demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with your department by offerring 3 (three) immediate suggestions:

1. Compile all programs that EIA recipients are eligible for and include them with your departments direct mail out. You are in the enviable position of being able to deliver precision strikes on your target market.

2. Form a committee that includes EIA employees and recipients to look at innovative & creative program delivery.

3. Assist EIA entrepreneurs with start up capital. Juxtaposing multi year EIA payments with immediate participation in business/entrepreneurial efforts creates a strong case for investing in the future of an EIA recipient.

Together we can launch a plan of action that will bring new hope to those who desperately need it.

I look forward to your timely response.

This email and posting represent Day 1(one) of the initiative. MAC TRACKER is officially launched. (insert the sound of one hand clapping here)...
